Equifax SAFESCAN®
monitors every on-line request, compares customer-provided input against a separate
nationwide fraud system and alerts customers when potentially fraudulent information
elements are found. A low-cost optional enhancement to a wide range of Equifax risk
assessment products, SAFESCAN provides several important advantages:
- Current, Complete Coverage. SAFESCAN is continually updated
with fraud-related information from Equifax customers and government agencies, as well as
law enforcement, postal authority and trade associations. Add SAFESCAN's internal
monitoring of every request and the result is nationwide fraud protection built on
current, complete information.
- Increase Information Accuracy. SAFESCAN increases your
confidence in the accuracy of information the consumer provided, helping detect errors and
immediately flagging applications that should be examined more closely to verify address,
Social Security or telephone number information.
- Protection Beyond "Known Frauds". SAFESCAN issues
warning on applications that contain fraudulent elements - helping detect potential
fraudulent activity before it becomes widely known and reported.
- Comprehensive Address Search. SAFESCAN warns you when an
applicant's address is a mail receiving service, prison, lodging facility, check cashing
site, etc.,or has been misused in the past. And only SAFESCAN identifies address
associated with two or more names or Social Security numbers-providing additional
information for verifying application accuracy.
- No Disclosure Requirement. SAFESCAN warnings are not part of
the file, cannot be used as a basis for denying credit or employment, and apply only to
information elements - not to individuals.
- Cost - effectiveness Protection. SAFESCAN can pay for itself
if it helps to prevent even one fraud-related loss out of thousands of applications
- Automatic Access. After a customer number is activated to SAFESCAN,
no additional sign-on requirement are needed. It automatically checks every on-line
request made via DAT, PC, voice response unit (VRU) or system to system access method an
is available off-line via tape-to-tape.
